The Machine Operator, Laser – 2nd Shift is responsible for operating, calibrating, and setting up computer-controlled laser cutting equipment to produce precision parts from raw material in accordance with job-specific work orders, production schedules, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate laser cutting equipment to produce customer parts according to work orders and inspection requirements
• Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedures
• Load and unload sheet material onto the laser cutting table
• Select and install appropriate lenses based on material type and thickness
• Load programs and set machine parameters to ensure optimal cutting performance
• Remove finished components from material skeletons and inspect parts for defects and cut quality
• Maintain knowledge of shield gases used during laser cutting operations
• Follow production schedules provided by the Planning Department to meet manufacturing timelines
• Perform initial inspections and verify parts meet quality standards before release
• Conduct routine cleaning and minor maintenance of laser equipment in accordance with company standards and manufacturer recommendations
• Perform preventative maintenance procedures to maintain peak machine performance
• Monitor assist gas and resonator gas levels and support supply requirements for daily production
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Coordinator or Supervisor
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years of experience operating CO2 or Fiber Laser equipment
• Experience with Amada VPSS 4ie Blank software or similar programming software preferred
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, layouts, and engineering drawings
• Understanding of general tolerances and quality standards
• Experience using precision measuring equipment including optical comparators, micrometers, dial calipers, dial indicators, and other inspection tools
• Basic math skills required for manufacturing calculations
• Ability to operate and maintain machines within the department
• Flexibility to work assigned shifts as required
